Sparks United Methodist Church in cooperation with the Reno Children’s Cabinet has recently achieved “Safe Place” status for the youth of Sparks and Reno.

Safe Place is a nationally known outreach and prevention program for young people under the age of 18 who need immediate help and safety. Our role as a church is to act as a facilitator between the youth and Children’s Cabinet so the youth can obtain the assistance they need for shelter, protection, food or medical attention.

Summer - Christmas in July

Many of the elementary schools in our area have tight budgets which often prevent them from providing programs, materials, and experiences as part of a holistic educational environment. Working closely with local principals and teachers, our summer project raises funds to partially or fully fund their “wish list” needs.

Fall - Children’s Book Drive

We partner with Spread the Word Nevada for a book drive to collect new and gently used books. Spread the Word Nevada is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Nevada’s at-risk, low-income communities. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts life-long success.

Winter - Giving Tree

Each December, we have a Giving Tree with a tag that has basic information about a child in one of our neighborhood schools. Our members use these tags to purchase Christmas gifts for each child. For many children, these will be the only presents they receive this Christmas.

This year our Giving Tree is virtual. Our wonderful Outreach Team has connected with the elementary schools we support and 100% of the donations will be divided equally among them. (The schools know which families are in need of help). Checks can be mailed to the church office to the secure mailbox or you can donate online through the website on the giving module - select Giving Tree to designate your gift.

Thank you for your generosity and for caring.
